The words of Pier Paolo Piccioli and Grazia Chiuris about this collection made it look even better. Liberated from the past, respecting the image and techniques of the house, the 2 designers introduced us to a new Valentino.
"If fashion is about today, then today it's time to go back to elegance... Elegance is subversive, the real subversion is culture" said Pier. The collection focused on the kind of exquisitely refined handwork including a technique called bigoudi practiced by craftswoman in the countryside that lies beyond Paris.
A sensation of purity and sensuality was walking the catwalk: long dresses in pale colors inspired from the 70's.
"We just wanted to remove all heaviness. The idea is that the dresses are so light, they almost become part of the woman herself, and we wanted a kind of sensuality too" Piccioli said after the show, and he got what he wanted.
The 2 designers showed us since the beginning that they know what they want, they know who they are and they know how to lead the house. This collection showed a craftsmanship that can't be found elsewhere. Lining the transparency of these dresses, lining the pleats, central motif of the collection and one of the signatures of the house. The Narrow ribbons of lace and the hundreds of ripples of chiffon all hand-pressed are a pure example of the strength of Piccioli and Chiuris.
Chiuri said there was "a secret in the collection, in the way the pleats fell, the way the sheer fabrics seemed about to reveal something while keeping it hidden. That secret was presumably the girl inside the clothes. If she was covered up, she wasn't demure." this transparency looked so wise, so in its place kinda erotic wanting ti show those bodies but making it impossible at the same time and the hair and make up were so penitent that the models' look delivered a clear message of purity. “It’s a clean prettiness,” Grazia Chiuri said, before Picciolio continues, “Even with the long evening, there is lightness.
