The Evolution Of Apple's Mac Over The Past 30 Years 

 

 

1984: Macintosh 128k

The Macintosh 128k was introduced to the world during the Super Bowl XVIII in 1984 in an iconic commercial directed by Ridley Scott that referenced George Orwell's dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty-Four. It was described as the "the computer for the rest of us."

1987: Macintosh II

The Mac II represented a major shift for Macs with its color display and its modular system that allowed users to plug in peripherals.

1991: PowerBook 140

The PowerBook 140 was the first in line of Apple's long-running PowerBook series that ran until 2006. It is considered to be the first real portable Mac, as the previously released Macintosh Portable had a price tag of $6500 and weighed a nasty 16 pounds.

1993: Macintosh Color Classic

The Color Classic was the first color compact Mac.

1998: iMac G3

The original iMac G3 was a big Jony Ive innovation and a precursor of the multicolored iPhone 5c.

With its "clamshell" case, the iBook was a cheaper and less powerful laptop than its PowerBook.

2002: iMac G4

Also known as the “Sunflower,” the iMac G4’s unusual design allowed a thin panel display to be adjustable on top of a heavy base where the computer is.

2006: MacBook Pro

Featuring an aluminum shell, the MacBook Pro replaced the PowerBook G4 as Apple’s labtop of choice.

2008: MacBook Air

When first introduce the MacBook air was promoted as the “World’s Thinnest Labtop” weighing just 3 pounds.
