Mrs Fields cookies

Several years ago I had gotten this recipe but I never tried it.  I can't even remember who had given me this recipe, so since it says "Mrs. Fields' Cookies" we will give her credit.  Sorry to whoever gave this to me.  My only consolation was that it happened to be when cooking was a chore (or atleast I told myself that since I didn't know what I was doing at the time ;) and put the recipe away in a binder that I hadn't seen since.  I was happily surprised to find it when I moved a few months ago)

I made a few adaptations, those are in green.

Mrs. Fields Cookies

Ingredients:
1 cup butter, softened, not melted
1 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar (light or dark)
2 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla
12 oz bag chocolate chips
9 oz chocolate bar
2 cups flour
2 ½ cups oatmeal (finely ground; grind it in small batches in a blender or coffee grinder.  Measure BEFORE grinding:
¾ tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder

Directions:
Cream together in a big bowl: butter, white sugar, brown sugar.  Mix in eggs and vanilla

In a second bowl, mix flour, ground oatmeal, salt, baking soda, and baking powder

Slowly mix dry ingredients into wet.
Stir in chocolate chips (I used half chocolate chips and the other half Andes mint pieces, also found by the chocolate chips in the baking section..it added a great flavor to traditional cookies)
If desired grate the chocolate bar and mix in chocolate dust. (I had melted Chiradelli chocolate chips and then frozen them specifically for grating purposes, so I used this instead of an actual chocolate bar; either would be delicious!)

Place golf ball size lumps about 2 inches apart on un-greased cookie sheets.

Bake 6-7 minutes. In 375 degree oven.

For flatter cookies, flatten with a spatula after 5 minutes, and then bake for 3-5 minutes more.

After the cookies cooled, I drizzled the chiradelli chocolate over the top, which made them even better!

My husband really liked these cookies.  They were a denser cookies, with the oatmeal, and with the slight mint flavor, they fit perfectly during the Christmas season.
